Doug joined Iron Mountain’s Real Estate Team in 1999 as a Construction Project Manager. Since that time, he has held increasingly senior roles in the group (Senior Manager, Director) and was appointed Vice President in 2012. During his tenure Doug has been responsible for the development of over 20 million sf of new space for the firm in ground up new construction as well as facility build-outs throughout North, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Doug is responsible for the firm’s Facility Management Program covering 95 MM SF in 62 countries with his team of internal and external partners. In addition he is the global leader of the firm’s Facility Upgrade Program, which focuses on prioritizing and completing fire protection and security projects around the world to bring facilities into compliance with Iron Mountain’s facility standards in these areas. Together these roles have accountability for delivering approximately $300 -350M of capital projects annually and an operating costs for FM and Utilities of about $150MM annually.
Doug was a key contributor to Iron Mountain’s REIT conversion in 2014 serving as the leader of the Global Real Estate work stream and its many deliverables. In addition Doug served as Iron Mountain’s expert in meetings with the IRS to articulate the rationale for why Iron Mountain’s rack should be considered real estate. He also plays a critical role for the firm with respect to acquisitions and integration of companies into our core business lines including Records Management (paper), Data Management (media), Data Centers, Secure Shredding, DMS (digitization), Entertainment Services, Crozier Fine Arts, Consumer and Warehouse & Logistics. Doug works with business leads for each of the lines to develop overall scopes and strategies for project development and delivery as well as FM, Utility and Sustainability delivery.
Prior to joining Iron Mountain, Doug worked for Stone & Webster for seven years as a structural engineer designing foundations, steel structures and bridges for projects around the world. He is a licensed professional engineer (“P.E.”) and holds a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and Construction Management from Northeastern University. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Doug is an active member of CoreNet Global, the leading corporate real estate organization, and represents Iron Mountain as a member of PRISM, the industry leading records management organization. He has been married to his wife Michelle for 30 years; they live in Wrentham MA with their daughter (24) and son (20). Doug is an avid New England sports fan and enjoys coaching and working in youth sports in the community. He also works with his wife in their community to help young couples prepare for marriage.
